Pool builders in Mudgeeraba.
Mudgeeraba is the start of the Gold Coast hinterland. Acreage blocks 1–5 hectares, granite-based hinterland soil rather than coastal sand, mature gardens, mountain views over the Numinbah Valley and Springbrook range. Pools here are usually large freeform concrete with a paired alfresco pavilion or pool house — the whole “outdoor living estate” package.
The Mudgeeraba pool story.
Hinterland granite soil = different engineering.
Mudgeeraba and the wider Gold Coast hinterland sit on weathered granite + clay-loam, not coastal sand or alluvial silt. That changes the excavation and structural engineering. Concrete shotcrete shell construction is fine. Fibreglass shells need a careful bedding-sand layer because granite chunks can puncture a shell that’s direct-placed on the cut. Excavation often hits weathered rock at 1.5–2.5m — rock-breaker hire adds $2K–$5K depending on extent.
Acreage = freeform, not rectangular.
On a 350m² Mermaid Beach block, rectangular and tight is the only option. On a 1ha Mudgeeraba block, the design conversation opens up — freeform pool with curved edges following the natural contour, large baja shelf or sun-deck for kids and dogs, integrated spa, beach-entry zero-depth zone, often a knife-edge weir falling into a planter on the lower-side topography. Concrete is the right material; fibreglass shapes feel constrained on these blocks.
BAL ratings affect the surround — not the pool.
Parts of Mudgeeraba (especially the western fringes near the Numinbah State Forest and ridgeline blocks) sit in a Bushfire Prone Area under Queensland State Planning Policy. The pool structure itself isn’t BAL-rated (concrete and water are non-combustible), BUT the surrounding deck, cabana, pool house and pump shed all need to meet AS 3959 to the property’s BAL level. Most Mudgeeraba blocks rate BAL-12.5 to BAL-19; some BAL-29 on west-facing slope blocks. We spec the pool surround for compliance from day one.
Pool + cabana combined-build economics.
Mudgeeraba clients usually want the cabana / pool house as part of the same build — outdoor kitchen, sheltered seating, sometimes a guest bedroom + bathroom. Bundling the build saves 15–25% vs doing pool first then cabana separately, mainly through shared site establishment, shared coping/paving runs and one set of approvals. $60K–$120K cabana additional to the pool quote.
Typical Mudgeeraba jobs.
- 14m freeform concrete pool + 80m² cabana with kitchen ($250K–$400K combined)
- Family acreage pool with large baja shelf + integrated spa ($120K–$180K)
- Existing 1990s acreage pool resurface + new tropical surround ($28K–$50K)
- BAL-19 compliant pool deck + pool-house combination
- Bore-water-fed pool (common on rural blocks) — mineral-balance equipment
